About

Green Tax Shift  +  No Population Growth + More Transport & Health  +  Cost Effective Defence

Purpose

The key objectives of NewAustralia are to:

  • Shift tax from 'Good' to 'Bads' - a major shift to eco-taxation.
  • Stop population growth.
  • Shift spending from road to rail.
  • Shift spending from defence to education while improving Australia's self-defence capability.
  • Increase housing affordability.
  • Shift spending from private health to public health.
  • Reduce the current account deficit.

Unlike the Greens we believe Austrlia's problems can be fixed without increasing taxes and spending - all we need to do is shift existing levels of taxing and spending to produce better environmental and social outcomes.

NewAustralia versus Existing Parties

NewAustralia is different. We have strong environmental policies as well as sound defence and economic policies.

Electoral Strategy

To contest the 2010 Federal election in a meaningful way NewAustralia would need:

Mission Impossible?

Its true that it is hard to get a new party started.

However, all the 'First Steps' (above) are pretty much cost and risk free - so we may as well give it a shot. If it doesn't work out members could support The Greens or some other environmental / progressive party at the 2010 election.

Changing NewAustralia Policies

If you want to add, change or delete NewAustralia policies:

Note that the party founder retains the right to veto drastic policy changes that would change the whole purpose of the party. (This is necessary as otherwise it would be easy for a hostile group to take over the party and change all the policies.)

The NewAustralia Constitution

The GetPolitcal Campaign

This campaign aims to build support for the pro-environment parties ahead of the next election.

If you represent a group that supports environmental action please consider adding something like TimeToGetPolitical.html to your site.

A Brief History of NewAustralia

NewAustralia was founded following the collapse of the Democrats at the last election. Some NewAustralia members and in particular the founder had tried hard to steer The Democrats in the direction now adopted by this site. After the election we resolved to use the accumulated policy material to try and launch a new party.
